VBS in Kalamazoo

July 6 @ 9:00 am - July 10 @ 11:00 am

Parents, if you want to reinforce resilience, forgiveness, and trusting God through life’s biggest challenges for your children, then you want to bring them to “Joseph’s Journey from Captivity to Exile” VBS at the Kalamazoo Seventh-day Adventist Church, July 6-10, beginning at 9:00 am, located at 1601 Nichols Rd, Kalamazoo 49006. It is free for ages 4-12 with fun games, crafts, and exciting Bible stories.

“Joseph’s Journey from Captivity to Exile” (often adapted as Joseph’s Journey from Prison to Palace) is a popular Vacation Bible School (VBS) curriculum—such as Group Publishing’s Egypt: Joseph’s Journey. It teaches children about resilience, forgiveness, and trusting God through life’s biggest challenges.
The VBS curriculum guides children through Joseph’s life via several stages:
  • The Pit & Betrayal: Joseph is thrown into a pit and sold into slavery by his brothers.
  • Servitude in Egypt: He is purchased by Potiphar, becomes the head of the household, and successfully manages it despite being a slave.
  • False Accusation & Prison: Falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife, Joseph is sent to prison where he interprets dreams for Pharaoh’s servants.
  • Exile to Exaltation: Joseph interprets Pharaoh’s dreams to save Egypt from a massive famine and is ultimately elevated to a ruler in the palace.
  • Forgiveness: The journey concludes when Joseph’s brothers arrive in Egypt for food; he chooses forgiveness over revenge, reuniting his family.
Through interactive Bible dramas, games, and crafts, the VBS highlights points like “God gives us hope,” “God gives us forgiveness,” and “God provides a family”.
