SUMMARY:"Tools for Caregivers" in Marquette
DESCRIPTION:Powerful Tools for Caregivers\, a 6-week in-person workshop\, designed for the non-\nprofessional\, informal family caregiver\, will be held on Thursdays\, May 9 through June 13\,\n2024 from 1:30-3:00 pm EST\, at Lake Superior Life Care & Hospice\, 914 W. Baraga Avenue\,\nMarquette.\nResearch studies find high rates of depression and anxiety among caregivers and increased\nvulnerability to health problems. Caregivers frequently cite restriction of personal activities\nand social life as problems. In addition\, caregivers often feel a lack of control over events and a\nsense of powerlessness which can have a significant negative impact on their physical and\nemotional health. The Powerful Tools for Caregivers program will provide caregivers tools to\nhelp reduce stress and increase relaxation\, make tough decisions\, reduce guilt\, anger and\ndepression\, communicate effectively\, set goals and problem solve\, and take better care of\nthemselves while caring for a relative or friend.  Caregivers will benefit from the workshop\nwhether they are helping a parent\, spouse\, or friend living at home\, in long-term care or\nacross the country.  The workshop focuses on self-care for the caregiver\, not on specific\ndiseases or hands-on caregiving.\nPowerful Tools for Caregivers is offered by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress\n(UPCAP) in partnership with Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice. There is no charge for this\nworkshop\, but registration is required. Class size is limited. Registration ends when the class is\nfull or on April 28. \n\nTo register\, click the Event link below or call 2-1-1 Monday through Friday\, 8 a.m.\nto 5 p.m. (EST) for assistance.

SUMMARY:Community Health Fair in Warren
DESCRIPTION:How would your church like to be handed a ministry? This is what happened to the Warren Seventh-day Adventist Church. \nThe FREE Community Health Fair began in 2021 when the Warren Church was approached by the Judson Center to see if they would be willing to participate with them in a Community Health Fair. In the past\, the Judson Center has used the playground of the church school for recess for the autistic children that they care for at the Judson Center. \nThe Health Fair was an ideal arrangement because the Judson Center has many contacts with other businesses and agencies that provide health benefits to the community and the Warren Church has the property just West of the Judson Center Building that is ideal for the Health Fair experience. \nEvery year in May the fair is a learning day with organizations to answer your questions on well-infant and baby care\, mental health\, foster care\, autism\, substance abuse prevention and recovery\, single mom’s oil change\, home handy man ministry\, veteran’s ministry\, blanket ministry\, fire safety\, autism awareness and assistance\, day care and Christian school opportunities\, traffic safe\, and woman’s issues. In addition\, a children’s play area with two bounce houses\, a climbing dome\, pony rides\, and a small petting zoo\, pickle ball demonstration\, soccer free kick\, free chair\nmassages and haircuts. Grief Recovery and Prayer Tents\, a plant-based food demonstration at 1 p.m. and how to live longer and better seminar by centenarian\, Doctor Arthur Weaver\, at 2:30 p.m. \n
